Jon, you are right but in today’s world it’s really hard to argue about intent because it is often lost in the noise of people using quotes however they like it. I wouldn’t argue that the quote by Gibson was fully intended to be used in the way it is so often used by people in various industries.

My favorite Gibson book, by far, is Pattern Recognition.
